Our HistoryThe Crisis Center in Bristol, Virginia is a non-profit agency which has been helping thousands of citizens — for free — in our surrounding communities for over 40 years.
Since we began in 1973, our agency has grown to include trained crisis workers who provide resources for clients dealing with a variety of issues, including::

Mission StatementOur mission is to be a pillar of refuge in times of crisis for those experiencing trauma and tragedy in the Bristol area by providing resources, personalized referrals, tools for intervention, advocacy, and education in the endeavor to bring restoration to people and communities.
ValuesResilience – The driving force behind our existence is the fundamental belief in human resilience and the critical role a support system can play in overcoming crisis. We seek to empower clients by fostering the development of the grit and mental fortitude necessaryto triumph in the face of adversity.
Dignity – At the Bristol Crisis Center, we are compelled to extend compassion to those in our local area that are distressed and in need of support, which is the basis for serving our clients in a way that respects their inherent value as human beings. Providing services to those in crisis is undergirded by the belief we are interconnected and obligated to assist the struggling in a manner that is devoid of judgment and demonstrates empathy. Integrity – Serving clients in a vulnerable state requires building rapport and cultivating trust. We believe in upholding the highest standards of confidentiality to ensure our clients feel protected and safe in seeking services, no matter their circumstances. Understanding that our actions will far outweigh our words, we strive to set an expectation of excellence and empathy with all our clients and partners knowing this will be our identity as an organization. Restoration – Crisis can wreak havoc and destruction in the lives of those affected by it, and we strive to be instruments of healing. At the Bristol Crisis Center, we seek to bring restoration into these difficult and often traumatic situations through intentionality in service provision, strategic intervention, and uncompromising dedication to our clients and communities. Leadership – The Bristol Crisis Center is grounded in a history of pioneering services to meet the needs of those experiencing calamity and tragedy in their lives. Desiring to lead by example, we seek to meet needs holistically by emphasizing teamwork and collaboration with and amongst our partners in the community.
